ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, LICENSING AND DISTRIBUTION

This position is responsible for seeking out partnership and business development opportunities for the Museum’s assets, including contract negotiation, pricing, business metrics, and relationship management. This position will also handle requests to license images, oral histories, and produced media, arranging permissions and working with Curatorial Services, the Institute for the Study of War and Democracy, and other departments as required to supply assets to a wide range of clients, generating income for the Museum via academic, personal, and commercial licensing requests. Additionally, he or she will also seek out partnerships that increase content distribution, which will include other museums and institutions, streaming services, universities, educational content providers, and others as identified, and be responsible for content licensing deals and developing financial models and term sheets.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree or MBA a plus, but not necessary.
  2. Minimum five years demonstrated experience in negotiating rights for video and digital image reproduction.
  3. Demonstrated experience leading collaborative work teams across departments.
  4. Demonstrated command of digital media, licensing, and distribution, with a thorough understanding of license agreements and copyright law.

THEATER AND AV SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN

WEB DEVELOPER

Reporting to the web manager, this position is responsible for building content-driven websites, maintaining existing web properties, and implementing digital solutions that support Museum goals. Duties include front-end and back-end development of websites and applications, handling various aspects of the Museum’s eCommunications materials, and publishing various materials on the Museum's website.

The primary goal of this position is to turn interactive concepts into digital solutions using appropriate technologies and standards-based HTML/CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Angular, PHP, Drupal, WordPress, Git, SQL/MySQL/MariaDB, cloud-based storage solutions, and mobile application development platforms, including Android and iOS.

PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGER

This position reports to the director of communications and works in coordination with other Museum staff, contracted marketing/PR firms, and other community and Museum partners to help develop and execute a comprehensive public relations and media relations program to maximize the Museum’s visibility, prestige, visitation, and support.

Responsibilities:

  1. Under the director of the director of communications and in concert with PR/marketing agencies, proactively works to develop editorial placements for the Museum.
  2. Serves as primary contact for media relations and on-site media visits.
  3. Develops and maintains media distribution lists and coordinates use of PR Newswire, Meltwater, and similar vendor services.
  4. Writes and edits press releases, media alerts, and other materials; facilitates approval process; and distributes from Museum and/or through PR/marketing agency, with follow-up media relations as required.
  5. Coordinates media at press conferences and other Museum events.

DISTANCE LEARNING SPECIALIST

The Museum is seeking a creative and energetic candidate to coordinate and implement the Museum’s signature distance learning initiatives. Reporting to the distance learning manager, the distance learning specialist will design a variety of highly interactive, engaging, and meaningful virtual programs that are national in scope to reach school and lifelong learning audiences. This includes point-to-point programs, such as virtual field trips, to large national webcasts for thousands of viewers or participants. The ideal candidate exhibits proficiency in facilitating learning experiences and using educational technology as well as a commitment to expanding the reach and impact of the Museum.

The distance learning specialist will have an important role in the in the forthcoming Hall of Democracy, a three-story complex which will house the WWII Media and Educator Center, the Institute for the Study of War and Democracy, a library, and dedicated special exhibitions hall. The Hall of Democracy will break ground in the summer of 2017 and is scheduled for completion in late 2018.

Qualifications:

  1. A bachelor’s degree (required) or master’s (preferred) with an emphasis on educational technology, formal or informal education, museum studies, instructional design, history, or a related field.
  2. Ease in using, learning, and testing latest educational technologies is a must. Proficiency with distance-learning tools a plus.
  3. Ability to design interactive and engaging programming and match to appropriate delivery mode or technology.
  4. Teaching experience in a formal or informal setting preferred.
  5. Knowledgeable understanding of World War II preferred, but not required.

EXHIBIT DESIGNER / TECHNICIAN

Reporting to the director of exhibits, the exhibit designer / technician is responsible for design, fabrication, installation, and maintenance of temporary, special and traveling exhibits, the repair and maintenance of permanent exhibits, and establishing and maintaining graphic standards for all Museum exhibits and internal wayfinding signage. This position supervises vendors, fabricators, installers, hired labor, and volunteers, and requires moderate to heavy manual labor.

Qualifications include:

  • A bachelor's degree in industrial design, architecture, graphic design, fine arts, museum studies, or related field.

  • Five or more years of experience in museum exhibit design and fabrication.

  • Demonstrated skill in developing and installing exhibits.

  • Ability to work with hand tools and power tools to fabricate and maintain exhibits.

  • Skill in drafting software such as AutoCAD, Vectorworks, or SketchUp.

  • Strong graphic design skills; expert-level skills in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

  • Ability to create design packages that include exhibit elevations and renderings for presentation.

  • Experience in artifact handling, mountmaking, crating, and packing.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and place supplies and exhibit components on shelves, including overhead, up to 50 pounds without assistance.

  • Ability to climb ladders up to 12 feet.

  • Willingness to work outside of normal Museum operating hours as needed to repair and maintain permanent exhibits.

  • Willingness to travel by air to various destinations to install traveling exhibits.

  • Strong written communication skills as well as strong organizational skills.

  • Willingness to work overtime during special events, heavy visitation periods, or to meet deadlines.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR DIGITAL COLLECTIONS

This position reports to the director of curatorial services and is responsible for directing the digitization of the Museum's collections and the subsequent management of these materials, which includes the Museum's accessioned collections of artifacts and archival materials and the entire oral history collection, as well as archival footage and photographs, digital exhibit media, and video lecture content. The assistant director for digital collections works closely with the Museum technologist, who chairs the digitization work team, and serves as a key member of the work team. This position also supervises two processing archivists.

The ideal candidate will have a master's degree from an ALA-accredited program with a concentration in archives management (required) and at least five years experience in a related field. In addition, demonstrated knowledge of collections management systems (KE Emu preferred), proven success in implementing digital asset management solutions and workflows in a complex environment, and an understanding of legal issues around digital asset use are required. Finally, supervisory experience and strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must.
