Pearl Harbor Anniversary Archival Images:

Aerial view of Pearl Harbor taken on October 30, 1941. Ford Island Naval Air Station is in the center, with the Pearl Harbor Navy Yard just beyond it, across the channel. The airfield in the upper left-center is the Army's Hickam Field. |
The Japanese carrier Akagi prepares to launch airplanes in the second attack wave. |
Captured Japanese photograph showing the first moments of the attack. A torpedo has just hit USS West Virginia on the far side of Ford Island (center), and a Japanese plane is visible to the right of the plume. USS Oklahoma, just to the right of West Virginia, is already listing from torpedo hits. |

A torn American flag flies as the barracks at Hickam Field burns. This image would serve as a model for one of the more recognizable "Remember Pearl Harbor" propaganda posters. |
The destroyer Shaw's forward magazine explodes after being hit by bombs while in the floating drydock YFD-2. Photographed from Ford Island, the USS Avocet is partially visible at left. |
One of the 29 Japanese aircraft lost on December 7, this "Val" dive-bomber trails flames from its right wing. |

USS West Virginia, burning forward, immediately after the Japanese air attack. USS Tennessee is on the sunken battleship's far side. |
Panoramic view of Pearl Harbor taken during the Japanese raid, with anti-aircraft shell bursts overhead. The dark plume of smoke to the right of center is from the burning USS Arizona. The columns of smoke to the left of center are from the destroyers Shaw, Cassin, and Downes, in drydocks at the Pearl Harbor Navy Yard. |
Planes and a hangar burning at the Ford Island Naval Air Station's seaplane base, during or immediately after the air raid. The ruined wings of a PBY Catalina patrol plane are at left and in the center. |

The wrecked destroyers Downes and Cassin in Drydock #1 soon after the attack. Cassin has capsized against Downes. USS Pennsylvania is astern, occupying the rest of the drydock. Battleship Row is just visible in the far background, with smoke still pouring from the USS Arizona. |
US Army aircraft and hangar destroyed by Japanese raiders at Wheeler Field. Japanese planes destroyed 77 Army aircraft and damaged 128 more during the attack. |
Ensign Katsuo Sakamaki's captured midget submarine, washed ashore at Bellows Field, Oahu. Of the ten submariners to participate in the attack, only Sakamaki survived. He became America's first prisoner of war during World War II. |
