Tips for Finding Items to Post

  • The first place you should check is your local library. Talk to a reference librarian about your town’s history. You can specifically ask for:
    • The local history section
    • Microfilm of the local newspaper from the war years
    • Any yearbooks that your town has produced
    • Any yearbooks from local schools or colleges produced during the war years
  • Most towns and counties have a local historical society or association. They likely have a list of places important during WWII in your area.
  • Check with long-time residents. They may point you to a memorial that was dedicated in the years after the war or to a place of significance.
  • The American Legion or VFW. These are often dedicated to local citizens who served in the armed forces. They will be able to direct you to any monuments in your area.
